Baby Girl Rompers, Three Ways to Do One Piece

Not every romper in this collection is built the same way, which turns out to be useful. Some pair a knitted bodice with a fabric bottom, in checked, lace, animal-print or house-print designs. Others are all-in-one, cut entirely from one fabric, in velvet or checked cotton. And a third group is knit from top to bottom, with details like an embroidered teddy bear, a cable pattern, or a knit bow at the V-neck.

Which one you reach for depends on the day. The all-in-one velvet style has a bit more polish for a family visit. The knitted bodice versions are the easiest to layer under a jacket in cooler weather. The pure knit ones, cable or otherwise, are the warmest of the three and hold up well to a lot of tummy time.

Why the Bodice-and-Fabric Combination Works So Well

Pairing a knitted top with a woven fabric bottom isn't just about looks. The knit part stretches with her, which matters for a romper she'll be wearing while rolling, kicking and generally not staying still. The fabric bottom holds its shape better under a nappy, so the romper doesn't sag by mid-morning the way an all-knit piece sometimes does.

What Parents Usually Ask

Which romper style is warmest?

The cable knit and embroidered knit rompers tend to be the warmest, since they're knitted throughout rather than combining a lighter fabric bottom. The velvet all-in-one comes close, but for the coldest days a knit romper plus a layer on top is the safer bet.

What sizes are these rompers available in?

Sizes run from newborn up to 24 months, depending on the style. Each product page has a size chart with weight and height guidance.

Is the lace fabric romper delicate to wash?

A little more than the others, yes. We'd suggest a gentle 30°C cycle and skipping the tumble dryer, so the lace detail keeps its shape over repeated washes.

Are these rompers suitable for a special occasion?

The velvet all-in-one and the embroidered teddy bear knit romper both have a slightly dressier finish, so either works for a family celebration. The checked and house-print styles are better suited to everyday wear.

Rounding Out the Outfit

A romper on its own is usually enough, but if you're layering for cooler weather, our dungarees pair well over a plain bodysuit, and the accessories collection has the booties and headbands that finish the look. For everything else, start from the full baby girl collection.
